After The Lights Go Out - The Best Of 1965 - 1967
Label: Island Mercury
This is a fine introduction to the Walker Brothers, the American vocal trio who took Britain by storm in the mid-1960s. Early hits such as "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore," "My Ship Is Coming In" and "Make It Easy on Yourself" showcase Scott Walker's magisterial baritone amidst a melodramatic backdrop that sounds like the a rock orientated Righteous Brothers produced by Phil Spector. Scott Walker's solo artistic ambitions actually started here with the amazing "Mrs. Murphy," "In My Room," "Archangel" and "Orpheus." Julian Cope would devote a sizeable section of his career to "After the Lights Go Out."
