Label: Tru Thoughts
By the time Quantic released his third album, his name was already quite friendly with some very important tongues (including those of Gilles Peterson and Jazzanova). Mishaps is polished, complex, seductive -- an exemplary justification for all that drooling and tongue-wagging. After a brief interlude (from about tracks 5 through 7) of being a bit too much of a slave to the groove (read: kind of boring), the album picks back up (and then some) on the Alice Russell-helmed "Don't Joke with a Hungry Man." The Francophone Afrobeat/hip-hop hybrid "En Focus" is not to be missed.
