On Nickel Creek's 2002 sophomore LP, the newgrass aficionados' wide-open sound comes from some stellar mixing by Alison Krauss, but the band's adroit musicianship and choice of material are what make this album sound golden. They cover Pavement's "Spit on a Stranger" as well as the old traditional standard "House Carpenter" while keeping their own songs feeling fresh.
