Backed by none other than Southern rockers Little Feat, former VU bassist John Cale released this third solo album in 1973. Featuring what are perhaps his best-known songs -- "Child's Christmas in Wales" and "Andalucia" -- Paris 1919 alternately floats past like a cloud and careens around the room in a fever. It's perhaps a little more controlled (barely) than his attempts to change the weather with "Sister Ray," but the staccato violas that punctuate the title cut, the Suzi-Quatro-gone-nuts "Macbeth" and the left-field country funk of "Graham Greene" all prove this is still one weird dude.
