Living Better Now
Label: J Records
Jamie Foxx the singer has some gifts at his disposal: a buttery voice (that isn't aided by the Auto-Tune he insists on steeping it in) and a sexy persona capable of (almost) pulling off tracks like "Sex on the Beach." The problem is, Foxx the singer is also Foxx the actor, and his music often seems studied, as if he were just playing the part of an R&B singer. And since he made his name as a comic, it can be hard to take him seriously when he lays on the soul stylings so thick ("15 Minutes"). He's most appealing when he bares his soul a little, as on the vulnerable "Fall for Your Type."
