Long ago, before soundtracks to angsty, white-bread TV shows were the music industry's bread and butter, Imogen Heap was just an up-and-coming singer-songwriter with a debut album of piano-driven electro-pop and broken-voice vulnerability guaranteed to delight fans of Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan. Nothing here is as operatically drama-ridden as "Hide and Seek" (nor as breathily cutesy-wutesy as "Goodnight and Go"), which makes Megaphone feel more naive and less showy, an intimate glimpse at a young musician's dreams.
