Gods Of Speed
Label: The Bicycle Music Company
Five Crooked Fingers is a "back to basics" affair for the hard rock veterans in Finger Eleven. Cutting out the funky pop touches that littered prior recordings Them vs. You vs. Me and Life Turns Electric, the Canadian act instead cranks the amps and unloads heavy and dirty riffs in a vintage grunge/stoner fashion. With its Zep-style gallop, "Gods of Speed" serves as a statement of purpose. Just as commanding is the seven-minute "Come On, Oblivion," in which the group channels the extended psychedelia of Temple of the Dog and Soundgarden. Hell, even power-pop number "Blackout Song" hits hard.
