Death By Fire

These traditionally headbanging Swedes don't mind keeping things economical. Their third album checks in under 37 minutes, and only two of ten tracks exceed five. The longest, "Silent Hour/The Conjugation," is really two songs, its melodramatic instrumental half emerging after a false close. They open with a graceful mini-intro; they start songs dark or bluesy; they name the devil without trying to sound possessed by him; they do some google-eyes-noodly bass fusion called "Crystal Suite" that wiggles all over the room. But mainly they stay in the fast lane -- heartily, if not so distinctively.
