Is It Alright
While ELO were running on fumes in 1986, this album sold decently, thanks mainly to airplay for the single "Calling America." But by this time, Jeff Lynne's disco-y synth-rock production was being used by practically every lite rock act of the era (Yes, the Outfield etc). The sad part is that the majority of the songs are surprisingly well written ("Sorrow About to Fall," "Getting to the Point," and the Roy Orbison tribute "Endless Lies"), they're just smothered by the production instead of enhanced by the studio sheen. Ironic, since "presentation and surface luster" was what ELO was supposed to be all about.
