I Can't Live Without You
Label: EMI Gospel (EGS)
Even on his debut, it's clear that Hobbs has serious gospel chops. The depth of his voice on freestyle urban praise riffs hints of contemporaries like T.D. Jakes and Fred Hammond and R&B principals like Quincy Jones. Hobbs' songs would become more unique on later LPs, and though the melodies here can be monotonous, his consistent grooves and velvet vocals make up for it.
