With two of Creedence's most famous songs -- the slithering opener "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary," which everyone in the world has covered at one time or another -- this second album was one of three released in 1969. Like all of C.C.R.'s material of this period, the style is direct, simple and steeped in an utterly distinctive mixture of Delta blues, rockabilly and country music. At this point in their career, C.C.R. had played so many shows that the band had practically mind-melded, becoming a single-brained unit that was somehow tight and loose at the same time.
