On paper, Corb Lund’s traditional-leaning music should benefit from the old-fashioned sound producer David Cobb created for artists such as Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell. Although it doesn’t always mesh, there are songs on Lund’s Things That Can’t Be Undone where this is achieved nicely: “Washed-Up Rock Star Factory Blues” nods sonically to Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried” and lyrically to Johnny Paycheck’s “Take This Job and Shove It,” while “Sadr City”’s psychedelic riffs add a touch of ‘60s-era anti-war sentiment to this modern soldier song. Other highlights: “Alice Eyes” and “Sunbeam.”
