Let The Road
Label: Silent Records/Giant Little Man
The young guns of Rixton kick off their debut with Boyz II Men-style a cappella, but the rest of these ten songs fall in line with boypop's marching orders: synth hooks, big smiles, whoah-oh-ohhs, and nice-guy sextalk. A few sonic details do stick out -- like the way "Me and My Broken Heart" lifts a melody scrap from Dido's "Thank You" or a whistle anchors the opening bars of "Appreciated" -- but this isn't about smashing boundaries. They ask big questions ("what makes an angel fall in love?"), assume risky stances ("I Like Girls"), demand to be put on "Speakerphone." Kids will love it.
