Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf
Label: Verve Reissues
Master organist Jimmy Smith had the golden touch at Verve during the 1960s, and this was another one of his albums to go Top 20 on the pop charts (and No. 1 on the jazz charts.). Once again, Smith is backed by the modernist arrangers Oliver Nelson (a jazz genius) and Claus Ogerman, who specialized in spotlighting star soloists with lush string charts. The title cut was a go-go dance floor favorite during the era and is still a staple at the better mod and Northern Soul dance clubs.
