Candyman (Live at The Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, CA 1970 Version)
Label: Grateful Dead/Rhino
This is easily the best known Dead album. Its gently bouncing country songs, including classics such as "Ripple" and "Sugar Magnolia," sounded off Northern California's response to the Los Angeles canyon rock sound. "Truckin" contains the notorious twangy groove that inspired a famous R. Crumb drawing encouraging young people to "keep on truckin" (whatever that means). The delicate potency of these songs comes alive with the reissue that offers up five live cuts.
