Sounds Of Summer
Label: Capitol Records Nashville
For Riser, "I Hold On" isn't just the single -- a four-minute promise ring to his girl, truck, dad, guitar, faith and freedom -- but a distillation of just about every song on the record. On "Bourbon in Kentucky," for instance, the barrel lets him down, and he continues holding on to break-up grief, unable to overcome it until the bittersweet tropical vacation of "Drunk on a Plane" five songs later. "Damn These Dreams," meanwhile, is an equally bittersweet account of how Dierks has held onto his country ambitions ever since he first heard Hank on the radio.
