Hammer of the Witches
Label: Nuclear Blast
Their bombast bursting like the Meat Loaf of spooky-ooky metal, these decades-undead British perv-zombies keep shedding skin: Three of the six members on this album joined in 2014. Of 13 tracks, seven exceed six minutes, three come very close, and three are gothic instrumental interludes for the funeral parlor. "Walpurgis Eve" opens the album ringing in Satanic spring; from there, shrieks and growls claw randomly for sewer space, with song intros occasionally whistling daintily through the moors. Until gnomes attack, "Right Wing of the Garden Triptych" would almost sound pretty in a garden!
