Street Songs of Love
Label: Concord Records, Inc.
"I'm in love with love," the roots-rock survivor confesses in the first song on his tenth solo album. Second song: "What I bleed is your love." Third, about an overcrowded bed: "This ain't love." Pushing 60, Escovedo chronicles stormy romances in Texas (Ft. Worth, the Astrodome, San Antonio rodeos) and elsewhere (Paris, Phoenix, the Bowery), with women who wear black Austin leather and cry when they hear Johnny Cash. Most of the songs, truth be told, are less specific. But a few come equipped with power chords, surf twangs and swamp grooves that, played live, will keep bartenders hopping.
